Class notes for week 6
Sorry this is later than usual but the turkey dinner got in the way!

Just to re-iterate some things I said last Tuesday:

1. You may hand in your Windows case studies late without penalty. My hope is that you will actually then have the time to do them in a relaxed way.

2. There will be no homework assigned formally next week other than studying for the mid-term, which is next week. The mid-term will consist of mixed types of questions (multiple choice, matching and short answer). For the short answer questions I will give you a choice - say 5 out of 8. You will have to write a paragraph on the specified topic for example OLE or

3. You should study the lecture notes, and the theory portions of the Windows 95 book. The questions will not be picky, but big-picture type questions.

4. You can be free to give me your feedback as to whether the mid-term was fair and reasonable.

I will try to bring some practice questions to class tomorrow.

I had said that I would hold unofficial office hours in the Second Cup on McGill Avenue. Today I will not be there and there is a chance I may be 10 to 15 minutes late to class - i have broken a piece off a tooth and have to see the dentist.

Could those of you who have read this re-assure the others that I will be there.

See you tonight,

Ann Logan

As promised, here is a reprise of the assignment I described in class. I want you to look on the Net for a document that makes some comparison between operating systems. It can be any kind of document - from an OS maker's source page, from a bulletin board - anywhere.

What I want you to do is to print the document and highlight all the words that represent the CHARACTERISTICS on which the OS's are being compared. Put your name on the print-out and bring it to the next class. It will be marked on an all or none basis.

Please find attached first week's overheads.

See you next Tuesday.
